Loki Candle
Loki is half Jötunn, blood brother to Odin. Odin will not drink if Loki is not offered a cup, well except that one time…
Loki is known as a trickster god, one who wreaks havoc on the lives of gods and goddesses and humanity. Some perceive him as dangerous, and there have been periods in recent history where Heathen festivals and gatherings have banned even the mention of Loki all together. Others would say that he is misunderstood, a mirror, reflecting back to us what we don’t wish to see about ourselves. He calls our bullshit.
Loki is currently bound to a rock awaiting Ragnarök, the final battle . A snake is affixed above him dripping venom into his eyes until the end of times. Sigyn, his sweet and caring wife, holds bowl to catch the venom to protect her husband. Each time she must empty the bowl, he shudders in the pain of the venom. In Norse mythology, that is what accounts for earthquakes.
This candle is scented with notes of flame (in honor of Loki as a god of fire and transformation) and cinnamon and vanilla (for the sweetness of his sacrifice). Loki’s candle features a beeswax snake representing the venom that drips into his eyes. It is topped with mistletoe in memory of Baldur’s death. Was it jealousy, or was it the only way to save Baldur from Ragnarök?
Black was chosen for the candle jar to represent the mystery and mirror of Loki and his actions.
Hand-poured coconut/soy wax blend
Cozy crackling wood wick
11oz black glass container (3”x3.5) with black metal lid
